While reading it, my cheeky mind kept inserting the words 'wear sunscreen' from the song 'Everybody's Free (to wear sunscreen)' by Aussie film maker Baz Lurhman. It's a great poetic spoken song, and, reading your post, I suspect Baz took some inspiration from Desiderata.

It feels oddly peaceful, the more so that, while Nancy and I are on a trip for the annual checkup at MD-Anderson (U-Texas Medical School, Houston) -- PLEASE, ALL WOMEN: Go to NATIONAL-CLASS HEALTHCARE ANNUALLY AT MD-ANDERSON (HOUSTON) -- we visiting friends we have had for forty years! The wife is prospering, but the husband is frail, and it leaves me saddened, because these are some of the best people in my life. I keep friends a LONG TIME. I hope God is with these people in my friend's frail health.
And Kate Morgan Reade's piece came at the right time for me.
Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.
