Today seems like the five-thousandth day that I’ve had to listen to another report on The Undecided Voter.
Yes, I know that every currently “undecided” vote and every swing state vote is supposed to represent the battle of inches in this U.S. presidential election. It’s the Somme, Ypres, trench warfare, fight for every vote. We can’t relax, get complacent, stop fighting for democracy, decency, bodily integrity, the rule of law, political integrity, representative governance. We can’t and won’t until Madame President is safely sworn in: even then, the battle will have been won, but not the war.
But I am losing patience with the whatever percent: 8%? 6%? 3%?
We must continue to fight for every U.S. and state senate and house seat, as well as at the local level for people who believe in the sanctity of each of us having a say over who represents us, who controls our bodies, who determines whether the founders envisioned military assault weapons in civilian hands, and whether billionaires and corporations should pay lower taxes than we do.
But really. Undecided. Can’t commit. Can’t say who they’ll choose to run the country.
Really? I am out of patience with that. If you intend to vote, then educate yourself, and stop pretending that there are two candidates. But only if you like your freedom.
Maybe this will help clear it right up:
In our nation’s 248-year history, there has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump. He tried to steal the last election using lies and violence to keep himself in power after the voters had rejected him. He can never be trusted with power again.
As citizens, we each have a duty to put country above partisanship to defend our Constitution. That is why I will be casting my vote for Vice President Kamala Harris.
Still foggy?
Let’s practice. Pick ONE:
-The maniacs who can’t tell fact from fiction and want to overthrow the government for realsies
OR
-The qualified grownups who respect the law, work for the people, and believe in the Constitution (and can point to Lebanon and Crimea on a map).
Still Undecided?
Last night I saw several of these Undecided Voters interviewed about their opinions before and after the debate; before and after the latest pet-eating story admittedly created by the Vice-Actual-Presidential-fiction-spewing-candidate pretending he’s a carbon-based life form; before and after the latest oopsie not-really-shooting attempt at the bigoted diaper-wearing pile of hate by a disgruntled delusional loser unfit even for cannon fodder in fighting for badass Ukraine.
And all I could think was, are you kidding me? Seriously? You’ve had eight years to learn and experience first-hand the differences between:
-a demented, narcissistic, convicted felon-rapist who attempted to overthrow the United States government
-the smartest, over-the-top qualified, kickass woman who has served with the most effective, self-effacing patriotic president in about Forever
…and you can’t make up your mind?
I’m just curious here…are you alive, do you have ears and eyes, can you read, are you conscious?
Not personal enough yet? Let’s make it really personal.
Can you decide between a tsunami (that’s a tidal wave) arching over you, and a harness dropping down for you, attached to a line from the rescue helicopter hovering over your head? Can you decide now?
Still no?
Ok, how about this: you are lying across train tracks when you hear a train whistle approaching. The ground starts to rumble, and the noise gets louder and louder until you think, Oh no! That’s a freight train approaching, and I’m going to die. Suddenly, you wake up in a panicky sweat, breathing heavily, heart thumping in your chest.
Can you figure out if you want to go back to sleep and pick up where you left off? Would you like to? You can. You absolutely can. All you have to do is lie back down on those sweaty sheets, close your eyes, and drift off to sleep again.
Just remember you’re taking 350 million people and democracy with you.

Kate, this is a powerful essay. I only wish those undecideds could see it, resd it, and wise up.
While reading your post today, my computer began to steam, steadily. And with good reason!
