Very, very interesting! I have always been interested in geography but I haven’t kept up well with the changes over my lifetime.

Hi Pamela, I hadn’t either, until I found this site and turned it into a fun thing. I was surprised at how many countries have changed since -Ahem- I was in school. Well, yep, the Soviet bloc broke up, Yugoslavia the same, and Africa, well that is in constant flux. I hope you have fun with this! If we’d had it in school, it would have been SO much easier!

We all have geek-out areas, for sure, but this one is actually FUN to do whether or not a person is really into it. And then you feel like there are pieces of the world that fit together and make more sense, like putting together a jigsaw puzzle. 🧩🧩

Current geography is a huge gap in my current education. Your post makes a good case for addressing that.

I hope you enjoy! I had to take Africa in small regional doses over a period of time until I could consistently get all those countries in the right places.

Even a few of the U.S. states in the center of the mainland used to flummox me, not being from that area, and with their shapes looking unremarkable to me (Missouri, Kansas, and Nebraska).

Btw here is an ironic mnemonic for that southern block of states which all look about the same size and shape…Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia: they are the first three letters of MAGA. 🤷‍♀️

That last is a great mnemonic!
